wwyd if you had upcoming international work travel where exposure to covid could either cause you to miss one of your young dc's end of school year promotion ceremony, or result in them possibly missing the last few days of school due to household exposure and/or + test? Would you just pass on the travel and participate remotely? Or would you consider either of these outcomes a low risk? Assume destination is approx same rates as NYC.

Do not travel. Every person I know who travelled via plane over spring break returned and tested positive for COVID.
Took the words right out of my mouth. If virtual participation is an option, I'd personally go that route.
This is extreme… yes it is more risky but not “everyone” that travels gets Covid… else no one would travel.
Ugh! This is what I'm worried about. So, so many points of exposure. Lines upon lines through TSA, planes, customs, hotels, etc.
How important is to attend in person? If it's not major networking or promotion opportunity I'd opt for remote.
If it isn't a big deal for you to attend remotely, I would probably do that. I am always looking at our calendar and if we have an important event, trip, etc. coming up, I try to be more cautious where possible. In a week or two, we will start being more cautious so the kids hopefully don't miss end of year ceremonies and parties.
I would definitely skip it. I would not want to miss a promotion ceremony.
I don't want to miss it either. I just feel torn because it seems crazy to be unwilling to get on a plane, stay masked, and follow all protocols. At some point we DO have to get on with things. And yet . . .
@Anonymous I'm assuming the promotion ceremony is just a 5th grade thing and not an every year thing? If it's every year, whatever. If it's a significant year, I'd skip the travel if I could. But I also know a family where one of the parents just traveled and then it knocked out their whole family and the daughter missed her prom. End of the year is tough - so many events.
@brooklynmom I hear you. But every year is significant to the dcs :) That is a terribly sad story re: prom. Poor kid.
I've travelled a bunch for work recently in the US and been exposed directly to work colleagues, as in they tested positive the day after I spent extended time with them, I've tested negative and it's now two weeks later, still nothing. Personally, I would go but be careful, double-mask on the planes and in the airports.
lucky you!!! glad you were able to avoid it. Most of the work colleagues I have who went to conferences, etc., and got exposed ultimately ended up with covid.
I would go. It would be different if the year end event was a graduation. But It’s a moving up ceremony - I know it’s important to kids but there are always important events that COVID could derail. Honestly I have been on 20 plus flights since March and not gotten it - and I don't know a single person who got it from spring break travel. I’m not saying you can’t get it from travel: I’m saying it’s all over the city right now. Most people I know who have gotten it have just gotten it from moving around the city. Are you really not going to office, socializing, dinners etc right now? I’m not sure you are anymore likely to get it by traveling then by ordinary life. Unless you are still living like it’s April 2020
i want dcs to stay in school and finish the year out. That's my highest priority is restoring a sense of normalcy for dcs as it relates to going to school. That means that I haven't been living like it's pre-pandemic. Definitely adjusting to cut out actions that could present a meaningful risk of exposure. Just trying to figure out if international travel is one of those things.
