I feel like I am a thousand times more productive remotely, I work like a crazy person, but i still get to see my kids and could live wherever I want/ visit family without taking time off. feel like it's a no brainer no? whether it's ALLOWED is another thing but hard for many businesses to argue against remote working.
Not entirely. I do better with a little more structure, that the office provides. As well as some personal/quiet time.
I'd ideally do 2 days a week in the office and 3 at home.
that would be my ideal too. Pre-pandemic I thought I'd love WFH 100% but I don't actually. It's harder to keep in touch with people at home, every conversation has to be arranged. You can't keep a finger on the pulse of things, so to speak, from home.
after all of this reflection and time away from the office, I want to quit my job. I have three kids and always considered stopping but now I really want to. I love our home routine. The downside is that this feels like a terrible time to quit / retire. The bottom of the market is coming and we’ll be in a deep recession / depression soon
I feel the exact same way.
i work for myself so I can choose, and I miss my office SO MUCH. If my kid were in school 5 days a week, i'd be at the office 4-5 days a week, easy.
I love being home. I made a job switch during this whole thing and I now work around the corner from my home. I can’t imagine ever commuting again. This time with my family has been the greatest.
Sounds like you should be working with Ms. Osterweil - see The Atlantic review of her recent book.
I'm actually resentful of the fact that all this time, we could have been working remotely. There was never any need to come to the office. I've pumped milk in an office to feed my babies. I've missed picking up my kids from school and hearing about their day. I've had anxiety attacks trying to make it to the office on time after dropping my kids at school and again after work when picking up my kids from aftercare. And for what? What was the point of it all?
I think work could have been more flexible, but that's different than asking for 100% WFH
I think that remote work makes it difficult to move up. I feel like WFH is good for "tasks", but if that is the case, then I'll be stuck doing the same "tasks". I'm younger and I could not imagine moving into my current role if everyone was remote and likewise struggle to see a real career path when I can't interact in person.
Pre pandemic I had the option for WFH once a month. It was nice because I was able to do school shows, etc. I would have liked maybe 3 days a month. But not full time.
I would love to WFH while keeping my kid in daycare. Colleagues and students frequently interrupt me when I'm at the office so being home eliminates those distractions, plus at home I can easily grab food and drinks whenever I want. I think the 2 days at the office, 3 days at home schedule someone proposed above would be ideal for me.
