Considering and most likely will accept a job offer in D.C. but live in NYC. Higher pay and great opportunity for my career. Position offers “some” flexibility in terms of schedule and working from home a few times a month. DH is also open to relocating but not sure we can relocate together especially with dc and his school. Am I nuts to even consider this much less accept it? I feel like the pandemic may work in my benefit as many people are working from home and only going to the office one day a week (according to a colleague who’s there).

Life is too short! Now that I'm working from home, I have realized that I don't even want to go back to the 10 minute commute I used to have to the office!
Op: I hear you! The office was really big on teleworking in the past but apparently there was a shift with new leadership. I’m hopeful that with the pandemic, they will return to more telework (but I have to mentally prepare for some commute). Colleague said she goes to the office once a week and works from home the rest of the week. That’s very doable for me.
op: and this position will look sooooo good on my resume and I’ll be earning more money.
I did some daily NYC-DC or NYC-Boston and back trips for work. I personally couldn't do it more than once a week. If you can rent and stay there 2-3 nights/week, it's a difference story.
Op: thanks for your response. How did you travel? I’m thinking Amtrak might be best but there doesn’t seem to be any trains available. I’m reading that they’re limiting riders so I’m guessing you need to book way in advance now.
Nowadays, I try to view everything through the filter of "What would RBG do?" I think RBG would take the job. She wouldn't sacrifice her career because of inconvenience. The woman graduated at the top of her law school class, with a newborn baby and a sick husband, whose classes she attended and aced on his behalf. You said DH is open to relocating. Your dc's school is probably remote (or mostly remote) now anyway. The commute will be temporary. I say take the job, or you will regret it. Then figure out how to move the entire family to the DC area. It can be done!
Op: thank you so much! I love what would RBG do! You’re totally right!
@Anonymous That's the spirit! Be a badass!
Op: thank you!!
