DF has sick family member who has been wearing a mask AND gloves inside the house to prevent transmission. DF got sick anyway. I had a similar experience (just a cold, thankfully). Does anyone know how that’s possible? even if you spend all day around someone, shouldn’t the mask and gloves prevent transmission? Isn’t that the thought behind schools staying open?
People who are actively sick are not getting into schools, because they are screened beforehand (at least in my school - and the school nurse is like a hawk about symptom onset during the school day).
I can also tell you that if I see a patient w Covid symptoms in the ER, the patient must be masked, but then I must be in an N95, eye protection, face shield, gown, and double gloves.
Gloves for the sick person are pointless. The minute they touch their mask to adjust or whatever, they’re contaminated. Same with hands, but no need to glove when one could just wash.
Well, gloves don't do anything. Masks work when everyone is wearing them. Was that the case? That is the case in schools PLUS there is distancing PLUS there are protocols for screening, testing, and preventing sick people from coming in.
I think the main thing is that DF was living with the sick person. In our case, there was supposed to be symptom checking and not coming over with symptoms, but person coming didn’t accurately self report. That was the main issue. Which I’m sure happens in schools too but there is greater distancing and a greater ability to detect symptoms on site.
Are you the same OP who just keeps changing the details?? Pregnant, nanny‘s fault etc?
No, I am not.
NP - the thought also crossed my mind.
Then perish the thought. It’s incorrect.
Masks, distancing, fresh air...all of these things mitigate risk, but they do not eliminate it.
Well that is true!
Because the person was contagious BEFORE your friends was doing that unless everyone in her family wears masks inside all the time Just cause
I would guess it's this.
