Depends on how you do it. Don’t spend much time in the lodge, eat outside, stay masked always. We have a bunch of ski trips planned from NYC this winter (all in NY state to avoid quarantine concerns) and I’m not worried about catching COVID. I think skiing is one of the safer pastimes these days.
We’ve skied every weekend since Christmas. It feels quite safe from a Covid perspective. People are good about wearing masks. We eat outside and only go indoors to use the bathroom. I think your risks increase a lot if you are staying at a hotel and eating at the lodge or restaurants indoors.
Why would this be risky at all? Ski operators are requiring masks to be worn in lift lines, and outside is low risk anyway. I guess you could have some risk if you eat in a crowded lodge, but who is doing that?
Like anything, there's a safe way to do things and risky way to do them. Surely you can envision a risky ski weekend vs. a relatively safe day trip. Flyout out west, staying at a lodge, dining indoors, hanging out by the fireplace vs. taking a day trip to a local mountain and coming home.
Vermont mom. It feels very safe to ski. The biggest pain is getting cold and having to use your car to warm up. We can’t even use our private ski club building. If you’re visiting a mountain, I would imagine slope side lodging could ameliorate this.
The worst part is the low snowfall we’ve had this year. I have had to take our kids on shuttle buses between peaks, because the connecting runs don’t have enough snow. The shuttles are full of twenty somethings who are horrible at mask compliance. One refused to put up his mask when I asked, and then sneezed. It’s the least safe I’ve felt all this pandemic.
The shuttle bus situation is one of the types of things that’s concerning. Going on a ski weekend isn’t just coming down the mountain. It’s all of it — shuttle busses, lodging, bathrooms, dining, etc.
I think it is fine as long as you don't go indoors for anything other than the bathroom and to pick up food. Make it a day trip or rent a house--no hotels or condos with common areas.
Depends on your family. For us we all get cold easily (not DH) , always hungry and my kids are high maintenance. it’s not worth it. For us to bring the 3 of them would be annoying bc they like to be in and out all day long. If your kids can eat outside , not pee all day long (lol), and not bitch (mitch in my case, all boys) then go for it !

Are you staying with another family at their home? That I would not do at this point even if you all test before.
