4th, private, 2 hours. Our first year in private, and DC is getting the hang of it. Much better at executive function than at the start of the year. From that perspective, I think it's been worthwhile. Also has figured out how to make it more fun/social by doing stuff with classmates over zoom.
I would be curious to know. I don’t have friends at Speyer, but I do have friends who have been at the Basis in Brooklyn for years, and I’m pretty sure their kid doesn’t do this much hw in 6th grade.
5th grade, private. It seems like barely any this year, my DD is always telling me she finished it during at school or it only takes her 1/2 hour. Supposedly she's doing well. I'm wondering if they cut back this year because COVID has been hard on the kids. She seemed to have more last year.
How are these little kids managing a heavier homework load than my eighth grader at Hunter HS? It's making me grateful for our lame public general-ed elementary school.
My kids are in high school at a well-ranked non-NY public. The school's policy is that each class should only have one hour per week. APs have more because the school doesn't set the curriculum. Altogether, they have maybe 1-2 hours a night.
8th grade, public. It's all over the place - from half an hour to three hours. Average is probably 90 minutes.
ETA that it's Hunter (so public, but not DOE).
2nd grade, private - 1-1.5 hours.
Jeesh, we are first grade private and it's 20 minutes of reading and 10 minutes or so of math.
@anonymous our first grade private has no homework.
@Anonymous Same. Homework doesn't start for the kids until 3rd grade.

4th grade- UES public...no home work ..only work that they do during the day and "suggested" activities
Dear god. 2 hours in 4th grade!!? That is bananas!
Is this Speyer?? Or Basis? Those schools are known for huge HW loads.

4th grade, private, 1.5 hours.
That's crazy!
3 rd grade, parochial private, 1-2 hours. It's ridiculous. Public school before COVID, was more like 30 mins max.

My 8th grader (public), gets very little HW. My 10th grader (public) about 5-6 hours a night.

4th grade, private. 15-20 minutes or so of homework plus 30 minutes of reading.
