Hello and Happy Holidays! We have 16 staff people in our condo building. What is the suggested amount of tipping and are you tipping less or more this year? Thank you!
i feel like it might depend per building, how many apartments, how many are on the staff list. I’m in a coop of 100 apartments and I tip the 4 doormen 150-250 each, super 200-300, 10 porters about 75-125 each, and 100-200 to the handyman. I’m probably tipping the same or a little more than last year.
I live in a co-op with about 50 apartments. I’m planning on tipping a little more than last year. We usually do $350 for the resident manager, $200-300 for the 4 - 5 doormen, and $200 for the 2 porters. I‘m on the board and I know we gave the staff two rounds of bonuses for their amazing work since the spring and a bump on their usual holiday bonuses too.
Really depends on how many workers you have in the building. A good rule of thumb is to just pick a percentage of your monthly maintenance that you are comfortable with giving, and divide it among the employees in some way (equally or maybe give more to the more senior guys).
I was wondering the same.
tipping way more to building staff this year. they are in the line of fire every day in a job that isn't supposed to require that kind of hazard.

I think that's very generous.
Is it? We live in a full service building and my understanding was that this is part of the cost. Would like to know if we are paying too much.
@Anonymous I think it is very generous, but if you can afford it, that's great.
Tipped more, particularly to the ones we like.
Our building management sends a letter suggesting $100 per employee.
