I am so happy to leave my job in a few weeks, but it’s also bittersweet because I think it really could have been a great opportunity. I fixed their entire department, worked so hard, had staff taken away and ran everything by myself for months before they decided to hire a new person. The new person is not very bright, has less experience and they made him my equal. He now undermines me at every opportunity, which is a joke because he doesn’t know much. I am out of there in a few weeks.
Oh no! I remember your story. Did you find another job? Or do you plan to quit soon? I hope they're not pushing you out - seen that far too often, unfortunately.
I am starting another job soon! They’re not pushing me out - they are users and would love to continue to use me forever.
^ I don’t want to sound like I’m boasting but they should have made me head of the department. That would have been the least they could do. I would have deserved it.
@Anonymous Yay!!! Glad you're on to something new and even better. It sounds like even a promotion would have been saddled with misery, so you're making the self-affirming choice by going where you're going to be valued -- GL!!
Something similar happened to me years ago. I was doing all the work for my department and expressed how I wasn't happy every opportunity I got for a year but my boss didn't do anything about it. One of my client saw my work and offered me a position for x3 the salary. When I gave my notice, my boss panicked and I was called in by the CEO the next day. They wanted to match the offer, promote me etc. but by that point I was totally done with them. No reason to stay if you are working harder than others and not appreciated. If you are capable and hard-working, an opportunity will come your way. Good luck!
OP. That’s awful. I don’t think they’ll do that because they are cheap, and they can continue using my templates and processes that I created for them. So they’re definitely better off due to my hard work. But I am so over it. I was on some industry board meeting the other day, all men, and they make 5x my salary - no one will pay me that now, but these men are nothing special and in a few years I want to be there too.
Good for you! Best of luck in the new job!
Glad you found something else! I was in a similar spot for over a year and always mentioned to my boss that I was being abused, For lack of a better word. He did nothing about it and my old job reached out to me and offered me a 50% increase. Now the person who took over is a disaster and I would love to call him and say, you should have advocated for me ;)
OP. Wow, I cannot believe that there are so many other women who have had the same issue. I believe that workplaces really still try to use and abuse capable women and think that their employees don’t have any other options or can easily be placated with a pat on the head.
