My parents told me when I was in college that they thought I was the child most likely to become a Republican. That is....not accurate. Very confusing!
I have never had anyone tell me this (am left leaning).
In college I was sort of apolitical. A couple of serious boyfriends were solidly right wing. Of course, right wing 20 years ago looked different than it does now.
The Republican party does not own the American flag. It is for all Americans. I reject the way right wing folks have usurped it as theirs - and it's true, I see flat bed trucks with right wing bumper stickers and a giant flag mounted in back - so one does naturally associate the flag with this party. I'm consciously trying to turn the tables on that. Liberals should also fly it, and turn the table on this assumption and association. It might give people something to think about.
@Anonymous The tables were turned for a while. I’m almost 50 and remember thinking as a teen that people who were aggressive with the flag were just that - bullies likely to be right-wingers. This changed at some point in the 90s, but Trump’s malicious spin on kneeling before the flag, excessive displays of the flag and is “love“ for it coupled with the proliferation his own flag has flipped the script again
Do you wear Lily Pulitzer? Do you belong to a country club? Are you blond? Did you go to Princeton? Are you from Darien? Do you hold your tongue when people talk about politics or religion?
If you’re wondering why I stay quiet, please see the poster above who referred to Republicans as racists. Many on the left have ceased to be rational so there is no point in discussing. I STFU and vote.
@Anonymous I think we all realize there is a difference between being a Trump republican and being a traditional conservative. Just like there is a difference between being a Biden democrat and a AOC democrat. Both sides make it seem like they are one and the same.

If I see an American flag flying outside your home, I'll assume you're racist, excuse me, a Republican.
wow

@anonymous OP. Yes to most of these questions. People judge by appearance a lot, apparently. Not from Darien though!
Have you asked people why they think this?
I’m a stealth conservative. I keep my mouth shut so I don’t think most of my friends know the extent.
Conservative in the traditional sense? Or the... Trumpian sense?

If it wasn’t in the Trump sense, there would be no reason to hide it. Trumpism I rooted in racism
