Part of me would really like to escape to a remote vacation spot for a week, but when I think about it, I wonder what we'd do there (limited toys/books, etc). I'm thinking of a place near woods or water, but there is only so much of that I can do? If you can't tell, I only ever take vacations to places where I can create full-day itineraries, so I need to adjust my mindset.
I think if you are in NYC and just need to get away to nature it may be worth it, but if you already have a house & a yard, just do a staycation. Get some amazing new books, order in fantastic meals from local restaurants, drink wine on the porch etc. If you are with kids (?) maybe try Mystic ? I think their aquarium is open and you could do local low-key activities.
I'm just back from my week-long vacation to nowhere. We rented a car and took day trips, mostly hiking and to the beach. We also went to the drive-thru safari at Six Flags. DC really enjoyed it. I didn't do laundry or clean (besides dishes) for the whole week and I shut off my email notifications. I feel pretty refreshed now. All in all, it was a really nice week.
(OP). I guess that's my issue. Our famiily has dietary restrictions, so whereever i go, I still have to cook.
There is no such thing as a vacation with kids. Only a change of scenery.
