If your nyc school is reopening this month, how long do you expect it to stay open for? Do you expect a second wave? Ours has already delayed the opening for two weeks and I’m starting to wonder if we should just stay where we’ve been for the last six months.

My kids were in camp all summer. Zero cases, zero closures. I am not concerned about widespread school shutdowns because the numbers would have to get very high for mandated statewide closures (>5% NYS, >3% NYC). I do think individual schools or classes will have temporary closures for isolated cases, but that they will reopen after 2 weeks.
There will almost certainly be a second wave and schools will have to be shut down. That's why they should have started early instead of delaying.
I expect a second wave. There are 1 million kids in the NYC school system. Even if everyone did everything perfectly, there will be a second wave in the absence of good testing and tracing protocols, which we do not have. Not going for that reason. Just too disruptive.
Why are you worried your school doesn’t have a great plan? My kids started last week at a NYC private and it’s been good for them. But I wouldn’t send my kids to a school that I didn’t think had a good plan in place no matter how low the rate of transmission was. Is there something that other schools are doing that your school is lacking?
Mine is opening tomorrow and they've designed things to stay open as long as possible. The key is not only safety but also how the school will react to having one or two cases in the school. While a case means that the class needs to quarantine, it does not mean that the school itself is unsafe and should not prevent a school from reopening after a closure.
