I glad for homeschooling - I work a lot and was never involved with schoolwork. DH was in charge of school. I noticed that DC has a very limited vocabulary in English (I speak my native language with her so it never came up). It’s still more than enough time to correct the course, get her to read more challenging texts and expand her vocabulary. But I am shocked and feel a bit guilty that I wasn’t more involved. good wake up call!

I love this word of the day series. Check it out! https://www.mrswordsmith.com
This is great but she needs to expand her vocabulary at a faster rate. Basically, she needs to know all the words in the Princeton Review book - and they’re not even that hard. DC didn’t know what adverse, abysmal or acumen mean. I find that strange for 7th grade? we are working on them but it’s apparently hard to remember the words.
Get the oxford dictionary for ESL students -- it gives a sentence / example for each new word, which should make it easier to remember.
@Anonymous So does the Princeton review book. How many words per day are reasonable? 5 or 10 or something in between? I think she needs to learn about 500 words from the book to get her started and also for her ISEE test.
