How would you compare or contrast the risks of a spike in cases in the ES vs university environment? It’s clear that many college students have been reckless but younger kids are harder to manage and more likely to touch each other, also likely together in smaller class rooms.
There seems to have been a lot of conflicting data and theorizing about whether children become infected--and pass on the virus--at the same rate as adults. The last thing I read suggested that kids under about ten are less likely to spread it. Meanwhile the college age group are over represented in infection numbers, probably because their physiology is that of an adult, but their pre-frontal cortexes are not!
Thanks this is a good point
They’ll all get it and 99.997% of them will be absolutely fine
Probably less based on the science to date
I've been pleasantly surprised by how well young kids deal with masks. Age 12 and up, exactly the opposite. Also, it's fairly easy to cohort ES. HS and college, not really.
+1. It’s been pretty easy to get my 7yo and 2yo to wear masks. If they ever come off, it’s just a quick reminder to put it back over their nose and/or mouth. Young kids are much more likely to follow rules like this, especially when everyone around them is wearing masks. They want to emulate adults. Teenagers are much more likely to rebel and think they are invincible.
You put a mask on your 2yo? Wtf?
Yes, my 2yo wears a mask. He has no problem wearing it. Most places they are required if you are over 2yo. Most kids his age on the playground also wear them.
Plus college students are flying in from all over the country. ES students are walking a few blocks. Much less spread.
A lot of families are flying back now for school and not always quarantining unfortunately
Stupid to send these university students back home. The kids from Oneonta are going to go back to their communities and spread it there! The school should have just quarantined them on campus.
