Parents with kids in middle school and high school (I guess elementary school too). Do your kids drink caffeinated beverages (coffee, tea, soda)? If so, what age did they start. Is it daily or occasionally?
LOL! My 8th grader started to drink coffee which is funny because my dh and I don't drink it. I buy her instant which I'm sure doesn't taste as good a brewed. I was wondering if that's too young, but I can't find anything online that says drinking a cup a day is bad for your health.
@MidtownMom I finally gave up coffee last week after suffering through withradwal and unbearable headaches. I was reading that coffee is extremely bad for gynaecological health and I have my share of problems. I was able to switch to matcha instead. I think it may be too young to start having coffee for middle schoolers. I started drinking coffee in my 30s and got addicted to it and couldn't start my day without it. My non-caffeinated brain wouldn't function and I couldn't miss having it even a single day....would have massive headaches. I just wouldn't recommend young kids to drink coffee. As far as a cup a day goes, rarely is a cup less than 12 ounces these days. The media has glorified coffee portraying it as a warm comforting morning ritual and as "me time". I don't mean to sound angry, just my perspective on it, especially since you mentioned that you don't drink it yourselves. I also used to drink only one cup but it was a 16 oz cup.
I drink coffee every morning and sometimes throughout the day because I absolutely love it. I don’t feel the jolt from caffeine, and often drink just decaf. I remember loving coffee ice cream and the infrequent cup of coffee as a child.
That said, I don’t think I’d encourage my kid to start it in the context of chemical dependency (to wake him up, or whatever).
I started post-college. Its a habit that is addictive once you start - best to wait. Earlier to bed!!

I love this topic.
I have a big dependency on matcha; I usually drink FourSigma Matcha with Lion's Man.
During the pandemic I started drinking coffee after a break of 10+ years (I had stopped for about six months while trying successfully to get pregnant with DC1.)
When I drink coffee I get overly anxious, chatty, nervous, and overshare, a lot; I also yell at my kids more. I don't know how people do it...
Don't drink matcha at St*rbucks since they load it up with coconut oil and sugar. (I get an iced green tea no cane sugar when I am there...)
Thanks I will try FourSigma Matcha. Currently I have my matcha that I got from Japan, but will need to replace soon. Ippodo has some good matcha too. I drink mine dairy free and sugar free, with lime. The antioxidants from matcha have greater bioavailability when you add lime/lemon from the vit C. I miss the coffee sorely, but I had to kick the habit as it was making me sick. I think it gave me GERD.
No, but I'm trying to convince my 8th grader to start because he is SUCH A NIGHTMARE in the mornings.

my high schooler and college kid do not, unless you count the college kid's mountain dew red phase.
My 12 yo normally does not, but has been having hot choc every morning. Once it runs out I’m not buying anymore
Mine have the occasional Coke at a fast casual restaurant but not coffee or tea. We're a big sparkling water family.
I started drinking coffee in 12th grade, but DD is in college and still hasn't picked up the habit.

My 14 year old started with Decaf in middle school - now he's Dunkin Donuts and Matcha and Tea - he's done for. I was too. Still love my coffee
