My older one totally stopped at middle school. English is his best and favorite subjects and he always enjoys the books he reads in class. But on his own, he doesn't pick up books anymore.
3rd & 5th graders. 5th grader either can't put it down if she has something she likes, but harder to find things without book store and library--browsing and recs from staff. 3rd grader; needs a push to read but has a lot of a range that he actually likes
Yes. Both in HS now and 3rd/4th through 8th grade read voraciously. In HS reading in spurts (lots in summer) - other things going on distract. But when they get a book they like just disappear into it.
Did you do anything to encourage this or keep it going? My 4th grader has always loved reading but lately he doesn't seem to be into it as much. It's breaking my heart.
Both of my kids used to until middle school.
Mine do but they are 3rd and 4th grade. I know maintaining that through adolescence is challenging.
6th grader yes, always has a book. 4th grader, no, and it shows in the vocab disparity.

First grader and her friends do. She is a firm N.
5th grade, Y. I hope it doesn't stop in MS as some people are saying.
DD yes, DS no. Both in MS.
Yes for both DS and DD. Elementary and MS
6yr old, started reading independently earlier this year. Loves to read for himself. I hope it sticks. Both DH and I love to read.
My first grader would rather do just about anything else. :-(
