I need to get to the west coast to see my dad as he needs help with some things and it's been impossible to do over the phone. If I leave on December 15 mid day from Newark (I would get a covid test prior), then quarantine at my inlaws for a week and get another test (easy to quarantine there as they have a big house with separate kitchen, did it once before and it worked great). I'm thinking this scenario has minimal risk of me spreading it to anyone or catching it. What do you think?
Our ped said any quarantine less than 2 weeks is really not reliable, and there's always a risk. Getting a negative test prior to getting on the plane is only informative for the two weeks prior to the time you took the test. Why not take the family for 3 weeks? Fly out, quarantine for two weeks, get a rapid pcr if available, if negative, help your dad during the 3d week, and then come back. That's really the only way to be certain . . .
Flying could cause you to catch and/or spread it, of course. But quarantining a week and then getting tested I can get behind.
