We just moved to a new building and the main doorman is so unpleasant to deal with. Just this morning, he was extremely rude to a guest of mine. Is there anything I can do? It makes living in the building uncomfortable.
Hah, we seem to have similar doorman. One of the doormen at our building is not only rude to my guests but also to us. Very stately being who never helps with packages or groceries and will wave his hands in a flourish saying "its all yours."
Give him a generous tip saying it's a long time until the holidays, but you just wanted to let him know now how excited to be part of the community and to get to know him better. Thank him for all that he is doing in these difficult times, etc. And watch things change thereafter.
OP -- Wow, so I guess this is just the way it is. As I mentioned, I recently moved. The doormen in my last building were lovely people. Went above and beyond everyday. Damn, I didn't know how good I had it.
I am the one who had responded stating I had my fair share of woes with the doormen. No amount of tipping seems to reverse the snooty behavior. Its just back to square one the next day.
I'm a native manhattanite and I think doormen are just the biggest scam. I'll keep my money, thanks. But I know this board thinks rapists are lurking around every lammpost, looking to violate them and steal their Amazon packages.

Mine suck too. All but one. They don‘t help and are not nice

I feel like this is rewarding bad behavior. He was so rude this morning.
@Anonymous No, it's incentivizing good behavior.

@ Anonymous Well, OP is either stuck with horrible behavior or she can try to change it. I would try to change it myself.

I would never live in a non-doorman building. Extremely inconvenient for packages, dry cleaning, deliveries, and, yes, safety. But you do you.
@anonymous we lived in a non doorman building and Amazon deliveries were ridiculous. If no one was home they’d leave the package on the street.
Give him this tip, work on your resume and find a job where you’ll be happy!
You could, in the "nuclear option", document all incidents and complain to your managing agent, but please pick your battles carefully.
I took the "nuclear option". I'll let you know how it goes...
