I can't stand Deblasio but really happy that it seems he will not give in to the teachers union who want to prevent school opening. If schools don't open it will be because of the union striking and not because of him.
Except that if the union strikes and schools don't open, it will actually be because the DOE, which reports to Deblasio, hasn't provided the safety measures that Deblasio said would be provided. Have you read the open letter from D15 principals?
No, it will because he failed to provide the basic safety measures that the unions are asking for. He is blatantly lying to the public about what has been ordered/planned/prepared to appease parents like yourself.
Same. I work in a school. I wouldn’t be surprised if DiBlasio or Carranza end up with criminal charges after all of this. The stuff they are saying on TV and in parent meetings is completely false. They‘re motivations are 100% political, veiled in family-focused reasoning (similar to the delay in closing schools), and the re-opening is about as thought out as Fyre Festival was. Just so completely reckless and will come back to bite them in the @ss.

@anonymous Thinking lawsuits (from which they are immune anyway) are more likely to come from residents of public housing and those who live near the new homeless hotels on the UWS. So many in NYCHA housing died needlessly due to the ramshackle conditions there and ... look at real estate values on West 79th Street.

I am all for in-person schooling, but I agree that the city has not done enough to prepare the schools and teachers for safe reopening.
