Would you agree to have your DC take a Covid Test as a condition to having a play date with a friend? Seems a bit excessive to me to subject DC to that, plus the wait for results and the costs in a private lab (or having to wait 9 hours in a car for a free test). all that just for a play date? Why can’t the lay just meet outside?
I ask the neighborhood kids to wash their hands if they come inside, and I feel like a meanie.
Unless the kid has a serious pre-existing condition, or someone in the family does, the friends' family is nuts. Tell them your child is busy.
It's not only that it's crazy, but that by the time you get the results, they are useless. It seems you are not on the same page as DF.
EXACTLY this. When the test results are back, they aren't useful anymore. Would need to swab again, ad infinitum.
The parent is psycho unless they’re 80 years old or a cancer patient
Meh, not worth it to me.
This may be an unpopular opinion but wanted to say it. Its understandable that everyone is concerned about the infection spread. Why not wait until the pandemic is over for playdates? Was reading that kids testing covid positive has significantly increased over last part of July. Even if not fatal, the virus can have long lasting effects on one's health.
the pandemic will likely last another year or two.
Dd had covid and no one will play with my son until he tests negative but doctor told me that he doesn’t need a test? What would you do? My understanding is that the tests are for shit anyway.
Interesting. We've been very cautious but I let my dc play with a friend whose parent was sick with covid back in March and has since recovered. To my knowledge, the DC has never been tested and never got but I figured is unlikely to be contagious at this time.
OP. I believe the DH has a condition but so do I and we are already being very careful. But that kid hasn’t left the house since March. My DC plays tennis outdoors (coach not to cross on DC’s side of the net) and practices indoors 3-4x per week but that’s when no one else is there.
Omg people
Not leaving the house since March is excessive.
My kids haven't left our house since March. But we're in the middle of nowhere and nothing is open. Why would I take a kid to a grocery store in the middle of a pandemic? That's the only place I have been since March.
If you're in the middle of nowhere I assume you have some , if not a lot, outdoor space and you and your family are using it? If not and you're truly confined to your house then I don't know what to say.
We have been asked to do this. My answer is no, the rapid test isn't reliable, I don't know where you've been since then and vice vers, and by the time you get the real test who really knows where you've been
I think we've learned since this post that a person can get infected on day 0, get a test on day 5 with negative results, unwittingly infect a whole bunch of people, and then finally show symptoms and test positive on day 8 or 9.
