If the virus significantly subsides and the economy has a meaningful improvement by Election Day, then yes. Please do not underestimate how unpopular the riots, talk of police defunding, and lockdowns are to the independents (and even old school moderate liberals) in middle America. I think Dems are overplaying their hand and do not understand that. I’m independent and personally I will vote for Biden but Republicans for my local government.
I understand police defunding is controversial. But are you really concerned about the riots? Unless you live in Portland, it seems like a non-issue. Also, don't you in retrospect think the lockdowns were a good thing? The virus is spreading out of control. Without lockdowns, it would be even worse.
The riots got totally out of control in municipalities run by Dems. It’s not just Portland. Re the virus, lockdowns have zero scientific support demonstrating their efficacy in limiting contagion for this virus. For a counter example, look at Sweden and even Arizona which now appears to have plateaud by simply enforcing distancing and not doing another lockdown. I guarantee you: govt mandated lockdowns, quarantines for non-infected, school closures, and limits on medical treatment are causing massive societal problems that will, in the end, cause more morbidity and mortality than the virus.
The reason Trump won last election is because he ran a successful campaign. He doesn't have the polished language Obama has but he had worked very hard to send the messages to people who really feel resonate with him. He held over 10 rallies in the last three days in different states. Last one was in Michigan finished at 1am on Election Day and he won Michigan. On the other hand, the democratic candidate just seemed lazy or had not enough strength and she believe would win landslide. After the election, instead of trying to campaign for the cause that they believe in, the strategy of the Dem is to destroy Trump, there you had news in three years of the Russian Collusion and the impeachment. Biden is too old, he doesn't really have energy and strength to run the country. He and the Dem are now hoping the Trump Hatred is big enough to deliver them the throne.
Trump ran with an anti establishment message that doesn't resonate this time around. LOL that Biden is too old as opposed to the spry, spring chicken that is Trump. However, I do agree that the dems are relying on the "anyone but Trump" philosophy to get Biden elected. It's lazy and can backfire.
If? The man is a breathing mistake. People who are considering voting for trump are idiots which means trump can't really mess up and lose their votes because they aren't paying attention anyway. Biden on the other hand has no real base. Just people who don't want trump. Granted, that's a lot of people but it's also a whole lot of apathy.
A lot of Trump voters aren’t being honest with the pollsters. They just say they’re voting for Biden. They know that leftists hate Trump voters and will cancel them, so they keep their votes secret. You guys are in for a big shock in November. I know this because I’m part of a pretty big online conservative group.
I think the main issue with Hillary was that people just didn’t show up to vote for her because they didn’t find her compelling. All the Republicans showed up to vote, but fewer Dems showed up for Hillary than showed up for Obama.
Actually a lot of people that voted for Obama voted for Trump.
The way I see it, it is not that Hillary lost, it was really a victory of Trump. He won by winning many swing states that have experienced depressed economy. It is always economy. The liberals on both coasts are largely not able to get it because they don't need the manufacturing jobs that Trump promised to bring back to them. All other things about Russian, Hillary not likable, Trump's personalities, etc, are just noise.
If I was so embarrassed about my vote that I couldn't even be honest with an anonymous poll, I'd think twice about my life. But hey, whatever works for you.
It’s not embarrassment, it’s the fact that the extremist left actively tries to destroy the livelihoods of people who disagree with them on a range of subjects that affect the future of this country, of which candidate choice is only one. My MAGA friends talk to me because I’m moderate and understand that their perspectives are valid even though they know that I don’t like Trump overall. They are scared they won’t work again if they are vocal about who they support, especially those in fields that tend to lean left. As a result, they won’t even tell pollsters. Vicious partisanship is as damaging to the US as Trump has been.
I think a lot of liberals are enjoying the economic prosperity that their location and profession provide for them they lose their ability to feel for the economic suffering of their fellow country men in the belt states/midwest states, and that is why they woke up and surprised by the 2016 election. To this date, they still don't get it and continue to demonize them. It is sad!
So has that economic suffering Trump voters felt in 2016 changed now? How can they blame liberals for their problems when their own choices are making their problems 10x worse?
I understand that, and I wasn't all that surprised by the 2016 election. This tie around, however, I don't understand what the folks in the belt/midwest think Trump has done for them.
How is that Mexican payment for the border wall coming? And that much better replacement for Obamacare? Or labeling China as a currency manipulator? Or bringing the US infrastructure to modern times?
So you are angry that he didn't make Mexican government paying for the wall? LOL... I am not saying he is almighty and getting EVERYTHING DONE. But his presidency has been consistent with what he promised on campaign trail. On another hand, I am well aware that we are seeing things in different perspectives, and a lot has to do with the angles the media has chosen for the coveage of his presidency along with a lot of noise.
Not only can he lose, he will lose. I haven't met a single person who's excited about him. Only as of two weeks ago had we even heard his policy plans. He lacks enthusiasm, a solid base of support, and frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the democrats plan if he got in office was to off him in hopes the VP can take over as president.
100%. I don’t think he is campaigning enough. I hate trump and I think he is destroying this country but 1) I don’t think the polls are accurate. Ppl are simply not saying that they will vote for DT because he is so controversial and 2) DT is out there day in and day out with his hateful rhetoric while Biden is I don’t even know where.
Until the Dems get their heads out of their asses - yes unfortunately Trump has an increasing chance of winning. It seems like not much has been learned from 2016. They need to actually address his points head on, address the riots (no they are no longer peaceful protests), and job security Remember, getting California, Washington and NYS does not help with the national election - those are always Dem. Focus on the rest of country and the "middle" and their concerns).
I disagree. Addressing Trump's lies and spins lends them credibility. As a rural state voter, I think Biden is doing a fine job addressing our concerns. And did you not hear Biden denounce rioting, quite strongly, the other day?
The GOP strategy is to diminish enthusiasm for Biden. I feel as though you are running with a GOP narrative here, and hoping that by repeating it, people will start to believe it.
@Anonymous Not at all. I wouldn't vote for Trump if you paid me. After this latest disaster with Covid in particular - a pandemic which has no party, no left or right, no liberal or conservative that he's botched beyond belief. He gave a speech and condemned it, so what. I want to know what would he do other than its bad if he were president? What will the leaders of these places do to address the situation? The riots have been going on for months. NYC major areas were looted and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as other Cities.
OR. It’s frustrating to hear you (and many others) ask this. Biden released a 92 page platform prior to the DNC. It can be found here. Contrast this to zero platform put forth by the GOP. https://www.demconvention.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/2020-07-31-Democratic-Party-Platform-For-Distribution.pdf
I cringe, but yes. He could win a second term.
I think Trump has a really good chance of winning which makes me physically ill.
Yes. after last time, we cannot trust any polls. I feel like Biden is doing nothing to win the election.
Biden seems to be taking a relaxed approach and letting Trump implode. Hillary did the same and it didn’t work for her.
If the virus significantly subsides and the economy has a meaningful improvement by Election Day, then yes. "Riots" aka Protests.
Of course. And I hope he will (lose)
You make me so sad for our country and our planet. I hope the next generation will save us somehow.

He absolutely could, if Biden messes up.
If? The man is a breathing mistake. People who are considering voting for trump are idiots which means trump can't really mess up and lose their votes because they aren't paying attention anyway. Biden on the other hand has no real base. Just people who don't want trump. Granted, that's a lot of people but it's also a whole lot of apathy.
sad but true. And I think the media is making things worse by acting as if Biden has it in the bag.
Treating Trump's voters as Deplorables, w/o at least hearing and trying to understand what they say and are, is one of the reasons why DT won in 2016.
I put his odds of winning at a solid 50% right now. Hardly a slam dunk. Also, there's a long way to go until the election.
A lot of Trump voters aren’t being honest with the pollsters. They just say they’re voting for Biden. They know that leftists hate Trump voters and will cancel them, so they keep their votes secret. Isn't this what happened 2016? All the polls said Hillary and surprise !
I think the main issue with Hillary was that people just didn’t show up to vote for her because they didn’t find her compelling. All the Republicans showed up to vote, but fewer Dems showed up for Hillary than showed up for Obama.

Right?!

This attitude is why DT could win again
I think a lot of liberals are enjoying the economic prosperity that their location and profession provide for them they lose their ability to feel for the economic suffering of their fellow country men in the belt states/midwest states, and that is why they woke up and surprised by the 2016 election. Please show me the statistics that Trump made their problems 10x worse?
Are you making an argument that those economically suffering in 2016 are not worse?
I understand that, and I wasn't all that surprised by the 2016 election. This tie around, however, I don't understand what the folks in the belt/midwest think Trump has done for them.
And to that end, it does feel like a cult of (racist) personality.
Not sure what news you followed. Trump has been doing exactly what he campaigned on. USMCA? China trade deals?? Have you followed?
How is that Mexican payment for the border wall coming? And that much better replacement for Obamacare? Or labeling China as a currency manipulator? Or bringing the US infrastructure to modern times?
So you are angry that he didn't make Mexican government paying for the wall? LOL... I am not saying he is almighty and getting EVERYTHING DONE. Well, he certainly did drain the swamp. And build the wall. And..oh, never mind.
I guess we can check back on this post come November 5th. The Trumpers may prove themselves right. And good luck to us all if they do.
Actually, I know many POC who are excited about Biden. Am guessing your friends are all white.

Literally you posted this the day after he made a speech that dominated the headlines. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/31/us/politics/biden-speech-trump.html

Nope
