Debating a move to UES from Greenwich Village, depending on where my daughter ends up in K (private). UES is a huge area and I'm wondering what the best pockets are in terms of ease of transportation, good restaurants, pretty and quiet blocks, etc. We are very spoiled in terms of location right now and I know nothing will compare to the buzz of downtown, but I'd love to find a neighborhood that I'd be down to live in for 10+ years. Am I right that anything east of 2nd Ave and north of 86th seems verrrrry sleepy and boring? Is being closer to the park worth being farther to the subway? Thanks, all!

Fellow downtowner who would pick Madison, Lex or 3rd between 72 and 86 if I had to move uptown. I can't stand streets with no commercial activity.
Side streets are creepy. Who wants to walk around at night with no witnesses?
You clearly don't live on the UES. Whoever said they wanted to live on Lex or 3rd!?
Like I said, as someone who lives downtown I would never, ever want to live on an uptown side street. Something for OP to keep in mind. Downtown is much more mixed between commercial and residential and that's my biggest annoyance with the UES. It's so boring and cold.
Obviously the best areas are Fifth and Park Ave, south of 96. Next question.
Hate the UES, always feel like I have to dress to the 9's to show up in the neighborhoods you recommend here, or suffer disapproval from you natives.
I was on my way to snark about the "good restaurants," lol.
OP: I think we're having to bite the bullet and make this move. Eek. Thoughts on being between Third and Lex in the 70s? How much nicer is it to live on Park (prob high 80s/low 90s)? Worth the upcharge?
@Anonymous please don’t move. We don’t need another obnoxious downtowner up here.
@Anonymore recently moved to Park in the high 80s. It is quiet and feels more open. But. demographic feels really old here...nothing wrong with that but just saying. See a lot more youg families when I go further East (3rd Ave, 2nd Ave). Depends on what you're looking for
Chiming in to say that we are in the low 80s between Park and Madison and absolutely love it. Close to the park, which is wonderful. Close to schools, grocery stores (I usually get most things delivered but the Citarella, Whole Foods, and New Butterfield Market are great), activities for the kids (Asphalt Green, close enough to 92 Street Y), good area for food, etc.
