I've noticed an interesting trend amongst people I know and I am curious if any of you have noticed it as well. The people in my life who have gotten really into social media posting about various social justice issues, going to protests, etc. are the same exact people who have either become completely unresponsive when reached out to, less helpful/kind/nice generally and less friendly overall. I just put it together after mourning the loss of a close friendship, but I started thinking about people who I have grown less close to over the last year or so or people who I think have become more judgmental and harder to talk to and they all have really gone full bore social justice warrior. And it isn't like my politics don't still align with most of those causes so I don't think that is the source of the cooling. It's almost like people talking about social justice on social media and getting likes fulfills something for people to the point where they don't feel the need to nurture friendships. e.g. I am on a groupchat and a friend mentioned her father's cancer diagnosis and got radio silence from another friend who managed to find the time to post at least 10 thigns on social media about various causes. Curious if others have noticed this too.
