I am a communications professional, worked for 25 years in various fields, including broadcast media and not for profit, international organizations, wearing several hats...
After almost 4 years, I have been trying to get a job in NYC (or even remote) for almost 2 years.
I know it is a difficult market right now. But all the openings I look at, even remotely in a field close to mine, seem to clearly ask for a 20-30 something, social media (tick-tock, twitter, instagram etc) expert that can run around taking videos and posting... While I understand that social media has become very important, especially in some fields, what happened to good writing skills, external/international relations experience, and other qualities that were at the basis of such jobs?
I feel very frustrated. Not sure where I even belong anymore. And I am looking at assistant jobs too, not waiting to be hired as the next executive director... but really hope I will be able to find something soon.
Thank you for reading.
