I adopted a cat in the beginning of March and I’m in love! I didn’t expect to get so much happiness from him. He has brought a lot to our family. I hope you have the same experienc.
We absolutely adore our cat and having been a pet sitter before, they are so much easier than dogs. There are so many new litter options (including robotic litter boxes that scoop for you) that smell is really a non issue. If you go to someone's apartment and smell the litter box, they aren't taking proper care.
I agree with the previous poster: as long as you clean the litter box regularly (and now there are so many great litter options that make things easier) the smell would not be a problem. Cats are affectionate and funny and can be great company. I love dogs too, but they are a lot more work. I have 2 cats and they are the cutest thing.
It may sound like a lot but if you can rescue a bonded pair it would be great for all, the children get more than one pet and cat would have companionship and it’s as easy as taking care of one,
I second this. I've had cats all my life, but either just one at a time or two that I got separately. And I loved them, and it was great, but a few years ago, we got a bonded pair of brothers and it is so much more fun!
Yes, so much easier, but don't underestimate the smell in an apartment. Choose your litter carefully.
Holland Lop rabbit?

Disclosure: Not a cat lover. But every time I walk into a house that has a cat, I can smell it. Every single time.

We adopted a cat several years ago when my kids wanted a pet. So much easier than a dog. We have the most affectionate cat.
