He is a terrible person and doesn't give a crap about other people, but he's not stupid. He has the best medical care and experts advising him daily. He understood the risks. Why did he knowingly put himself in danger?
I don't think he's as dumb as some people think he is. But he is a huge narcissist and has unbridled hubris, and so convinced himself that someone as powerful has him could not succumb to this virus like a "loser." Not so different from RBG in some ways -- someone whose name generally should not be uttered in the same sentence as Trump. But while she was undoubtedly one of the sharpest legal minds to ever live, she did not resign when she should have, which is when Obama was president and the Democrats had control of the Senate. She thought she was invincible despite her age and her cancer diagnosis. And her legacy will forever be tarnished because of it.
Perhaps too much faith in the sensitivity of the PCR test, which can give false negatives approximately 30% of the time. Coupled with disregard for preventive measures such as mask wearing.
Not stupid? Are you sure? Not as smart as he thinks, that's for sure. Part of being smart is the ability/willingness to understand that there are things you don't know and to be willing to change your thinking to adjust to new facts. Trump can't. He thinks things are the way he wants them to be (just because he says so), and is unwilling to accept facts and realities that challenge his already made up mind.
He may not be the brightest bulb, but I don't think you become president if you're truly dumb. He certainly understands how to tap into racism, sexism, and xenophobia and how to stoke fear and rage. He was recorded telling Woodward how dangerous the virus is. He knew.

He is wreckless, selfish and narcissistic. He didn't believe it could happen to him and if it did happnen it would be a light case.

What evidence is there to suggest he's not stupid?
