Maybe there are some Chicago residents here who can add more information, but I wanted to talk about the events a couple of nights ago along Miracle Mile.
A huge group of people, acting apparently in coordination, committed widespread vandalism and looting of stores and buildings in the area. There were constant sirens and gunfire throughout the night.
National media isn’t really picking this up, save for an article on CNN that doesn’t truly describe the full extent.
A good friend of mine lives only a few minutes from there, and he is so shaken by what happened he’s leaving the city immediately. He GREW UP in Chicago so he’s no stranger to the problems in the city but this is the last straw for him.
I am a life long Democrat and storieslike this make me sad About our media. I want to give the benefit of the doubt but it seems ludicrous to not report it.
op- Yes I agree. I’m independent but I never understood before this year the “biased MSM” that right-leaning folks were complaining about. I finally get it...
@Anonymous Same. I’m a bit dismayed to see The NY Times, a news source I held in the highest regard, have its own biased agenda.
There was a big story about this on NPR, and they interviewed the organizer, who justified the looting as reparations.
op- Thats good they covered it. Who were the organizers? Were they affiliated with any group?
@Anonymous https://www.npr.org/2020/08/11/901219045/chicago-authorities-aim-to-prevent-another-night-of-looting.
@BrooklynMom op- So BLM says this is all justified. Nice.
Yes! I heard about this via a FB group I am in- someone posted how the "events of the other night had made them want to leave Chicago and move out of downtown" and had to google it because I had no idea what the person was talking about. I was wondering if I just hadn't been watching the news enough but had not heard a single word.
Here are some photos this is the Kratom store. In response to the organizer's statement that this looting constitutes reparations - wow...
And the Best Buy parking lot also in Chicago yesterday morning.
@Anonymous op- Jesus that’s crazy. Thanks for posting those, I hadn’t seen photos showing the scale and details.
And an article...just a matter of time before it comes to NY at least Lori Lightfoot is an educated attorney who must know what she is doing by turning down federal help, and her district attorney has an open strategy to undermine authority in the city...in NY it's DeBlasio and Cyrus Vance who don't seem to know what the heck they're doing...witness the homeless shelters on the UWS and the mural in front of Trump Tower at a time when the city is desperate for a federal bailout. Dinner with Cuomo doesn't go very far toward convincing me to come back to the city:

There is an article about this in the NY Times which is in the "Most Popular" articles, as well as an article in the Wall Street Journal. What "national media" do you read?
