I just had a good friend from another city email to say she got a vaccine appt for a few weeks time. Part of me wants to ask like - HOW? But I worry I will open a can of worms and create awkwardness. How though? No pre existing, early 40s. Is this happening now?
My sister got the vaccine legitimately in Mass. as a healthcare worker. When she went online to make the appointment, she just checked the box for "healthcare worker," and no one ever asked her for documentation. It would be so easy to lie. (But maybe your friend does fit into some category in her state. Does she work in education or some healthcare-related field?)
Nope. I think the era of vaccine contact hook ups is upon us
As a healthcare worker this is weird to me. We all got ours at our place of work 2 months ago. Why does a healthcare worker need to register online for it at this point in time? Did she decline it earlier? Or is it a loose definition of HCW?
@Anonymous She works one-on-one with a child with autism through an agency. The agency wasn't offering the vaccine on site.
This happened with a friend of mine too. Someone who has been flouting covid rules the entire time. Infuriating. I am high risk and desperate to get it. They are in TX.
how did they get hooked up? This makes me insane.
@Anonymous or. SAME! They got it through their doctor. Meanwhile, in NY we pay more taxes and have been following stricter guidelines and cannot get it for serious things.
You can get it in some states with pre-existing conditions, even if you aren't a healthcare worker.
this person does not have pre existing conditions. Was a hook up basically.
In nyc they just announced for pre existing conditions but good luck getting a spot
wondering if they need MD documentation for the pre-existing condition
How do you know she doesn't have a pre-existing condition? I have one, which will qualify me in NY state, but I don't go around advertising it. I'm sure that when I get my vaccine people will wonder why I got it.
maybe but i have known her all my life and that has never come up; also she and her dh got appt for the same day so they would both have to have them I guess. also np if dont want to share your condition you also dont have to share that you got the vaccine so then you dont need to worry if people guess/ know etc.
You really have no idea what her medical history is...even if you are good friends. I'm sure some people are gaming the system too but I think we would all be better off if we stopped making a moral judgement on who "deserves" the vaccine and just be happy when everyone gets it.
That's easy to say if you are gen pop. For those of us who are high risk watching other people get it who are perfectly healthy is extremely frustrating, particularly if they haven't been following guidelines.
@Anonymous First off I have a pre-existing condition and I get that not everyone is being perfectly honest in their appointments. But if I spent my life being annoyed about how other people have no character or shame, I would have no life worth living. There is simply no way you can know what someone's medical history is. Stop comparing and just focus on yourself.
telling people not to be annoyed at people using hook ups to jump the line is like saying 'don't be annoyed about privilege'.
BIL got it because there was "extra." Don't get me started.
That has happened to a few people I know, more so in Jan when the appointment scheduling was inefficient. Someone accompanies someone who had an appointment and was eligible and gets lucky. I personally think it's better we get it into someone's arms vs. thowing it out. I don't think anyone who is offered it should refuse it and be a martyr.
Both my siblings and my SIL have gotten it. No preexisting conditions. None of them have a medical background but they all happen to work for medical organizations (in PR/education/marketing) and they whole company gets vaccinated for whatever reason. I work from home as a freelancer and I'm sure I'll be in the very last group--I'm 45 and I have no preexisting conditions.
Good for him. I don't understand why people get upset about it. The more people that I know get it, the less likely I'll be to catch it and the sooner I'll get the vaccine. I had fully planned on not getting it until summer with the rate it was going a month ago. It's substantially improved since then. I think anyone who wants it will have it by spring. That's about as fast as I could have hoped considering how the former administration did absolutely nothing to plan for the roll out.
