So it's a freezing Tuesday night in late January. pre covid/"normal" times, restaurants would be full anyways, people would be out for after work drinks, work dinners, benefits, parties, school related events, etc. Is it crazy to know that none of this is or has been happening? when do we think these types of situations will happen again?
I think it will take a really long time before I would be comfortable going into crowded spaces
be more specific as to what a really long time means
why? after most people are vaccinated surely you would feel comfortable?
are you not planning to be vaccinated?
It will really depend on how effective the vaccines prove to be. With these new mutations (and those to come), we may still be facing real risk from the virus even after vaccinations are wide-spread. Dining and other indoor activities are open now in much of the country, so this will return to NYC as well. Big parties and school events, less likely.
so people will never throw parties again or have big school events??
@anonymous Oh please. Of course they will. This too shall pass.
Re: mutations, the good news is that it seems these are fairly easy to vaccinate against. Fauci said it would only be about ~6 weeks to create a new booster IF it were really needed.
I'm thinking late spring (May?) after vaccination has gone up and the infection numbers are down. Once people are fully vaccinated, a lot of people are going to see no reason to keep on the measures we have had, and there will be pressure to get restaurants open. They will and people will pack them. This board tends to run very conservative but do you think young 20-somethings are going to sit alone in their apartments for months after they're fully vaccinated? No way.
young 20 somethings aren't getting the vaccine that soon. That's what has us all depressed.
@Anonymous 100%.
A year from now probably. I think we are still a long time away from crowded parties and restaurants.
I think you're right on parties.. as much as we don't want to hear it. But restaurants are already open in most of the country, so this will be back. Will everyone be crowding them again? Doubtful...
Hmmm. Maybe I'm an outlier but a typical weekday night has always been at home for me. One of the few blocks of time that has remained exactly the same as pre-covid- tidying, dinner, dog walking, and tv on the sofa. Really have no recollection of ever going out to dinner on a weekday night unless it was someone in my immediate family's birthday dinner.
but many people, especially young professionals were out and about on a regular basis. many parents dont realize how many events used to happen on any given night..
I’m a single young professional fwiw but I guess it depends what industry you‘re in. I’m in pjs by 7, bed at 9!
