Every time. I have a rolling rack near the door with masks, hand sanitizer, and a small laundry bag. Grab a mask as you leave, drop it in the laundry when you get home.
How does it defeat the purpose? A cloth mask is to protect others by capturing your droplets inside the mask so they don't disperse onto others. As long as others aren't handling your mask, that purpose is not defeated by not washing after every wear.
I wear surgical masks at work (hospital). So I’m really only in cloth masks a few minutes a day (walking in/out of work, grocery store). So probably 1-2 x a week.
I've bought enough so that every family member can wear once and then toss in the laundry hamper. Especially our kid in school - I put 3-4 clean masks in his backpack every day so he can change after recess or whenever he feels like he needs too. I toss them all in a lingerie bag into a regular load a couple times a week and then hang to dry. If we run low, I'll hand wash, but far prefer to just have a large stock on hand so they can wait till laundry day.
Are you all using masks with filters? Do you replace those daily if you're not washing the mask? The filters I have are about $1 each so it starts to add up.

I agree that it doesn't defeat the purpose, but I just prefer the feeling of a clean one each time.

I have three cloth masks, usually they go in the laundry after 2-3 days depending on how long I wear it for each day.
I've been hand washing mine, and they are so so dirty! It's gross.

Same here. We actually like the Target ones that I bought for $2/each, so it was cheap to stock up.
Once a day.

I have a bunch so I wear one a day and throw them in the dirty clothes to be washed.
