My DS had a case in his class two weeks in. They quarantined his cohort for two weeks. They started back last Thursday. No additional cases, which is great. They had to show a negative test before returning.
@Anonymous it can take a few days for the test to turn positive. if they were exposed on friday and test negative on monday, there's still a possibility they would test positive wednesday.
I posted above about the DC in my son's class getting covid. No one vilified the parents. We were concerned for the family. The precautions worked and no other DCs became positive.
OP We've been getting emails from our admin saying that families are not observing social distancing and are having inside, unmasked playdates and sleepovers that break cohorts. Really making me think twice about sending in my kids.
@anonymous we’re frustrated by the same stuff and I doubt we’ll complete October in person. Between the crime and covid we felt much safer outside of NYC
I'm in Westchester and no one gives a crap. Kids and parents alike socializing like nothing is wrong. Restaurant workers unmasked or only masked over their mouths. Outdoor dining with minimal spacing. The elitism is nauseating.
I have kids in public and private and at both if there are two cases in different cohorts the school will shut down (not sure for how long) to deep clean and carefully contact trace.
Update -- 3 children in same cohort and their teacher, one child in another grade completely - which was likely a false positive for reasons I can't get onto on this board. Shows cohorts are working, seems to me. - mom at the school you're writing about.
what school is this? are these young kids or older high school aged? It seems like the older kids are not adhering to social distancing gauging from the emails from my kids' schools.
Our school had a case too and they seemed to have just shut down the pod. Hopefully that is all that happens.
I think a number of schools have had cases. Not sure if any have shut down because of it. Assuming most have been single cases.

Question - why quarantine the cohort for 2 weeks instead of testing every member and letting those w/ negative tests return?

@Anon and even on the most accurate day there's still a 30% chance of a false negative
Wondering how he caught it - actions have consequences!
Not so bad that a DC has COVID but I know parents at our DCs' school will be vilified if their children spread anything to classmates at school.

@Anonymous where do you live in nyc? I have been pleasantly surprised by how safe I've felt in Manhattan after being gone for weeks

OP: Annnnnd 2nd case at our school.
3rd and 4th cases, one is a teacher.
same pod/cohort?
OP No, separate
so this means the school shuts down right?
I'm not the OP but if it's only two kids, I assume they can just shut down the affected pods.
NP, at most places the cohort quarantine for 2 weeks (moving to remote). The whole school doesn’t need to shut down.

OP Yep, we're now closed for test and trace.
@anonymous what school?
One school Shut down for one day only to clean. FYI
Update: four kids, one teacher with covid so far. The school plans to reopen tomorrow.

@anonyc it's young kids.
Is there a remote option at your school? Because it would seem lots of moms trust this school if they go there. If you don't, go remote!
