My DH has been going into his midtown office 2 or 3 days a week since early July. They are now ramping up to full-time. It pisses me off, because our kids are not in school full-time (or at all right now), so my job is the one that suffers. His employer just doesn't give a crap. Luckily, mine is accommodating and I can work remotely on my own schedule, but that's hard to do while being a full-time housewife and caregiver.
That's annoying. It makes sense for DH to go in because our kids are in school and he does drop off and pick up. The school is closer to his work than to our apartment, so it save time overall.
@Anonymous My DH has been bike commuting to work for about 9+ years in the City. It really is very safe if you know how to do it well. For example, you go in protected bike lanes when possible. When there are no bike lanes, you go in the middle of the lane, not the side. You watch for getting "doored" by parked cars. You go with pedestrian traffic signals, not the car traffic lights in order to get ahead of the traffic waves. Etc.
All sorts of workers have been going to their jobs all through the pandemic. Seriously, it's not like people are plunging into the dangerous unknown. The subway will not be as empty as it was during the shut-down, but it will be far from full.

@Anonymous We're living in a society. Everyone is responsible for everyone else. We're supposedly all in this together.
I've been in once and will start going in once a week beginning tomorrow.
DH has been back since mid June. It's been fine, but he drives so no public transportation to worry about.
how long do you think it will be feasible to drive?
@Anonymous We are in burbs, I should have said that.
Does his work contribute to the cost? I heard of some places doing that.
My DH never stopped going into the office. He can walk to work so he doesn't have to take public transportation.
@Anonymous it depends on the route, but there are still lots of safe bike commutes in the city. Push your local community for protected bike lanes.
