Would love opinions! Main reason to do it is parents alone abroad who I haven't seen in a year and counting. They will get the vaccine soon but to reach them I would still be exposed on plane etc. Of course I might get a placebo but slight glimmer of hope to see them sooner than mid to late 2021 and help science while at it. But is it too risky you think?
I would totally have volunteered for the AstraZeneca trial, but I am eligible for the Pfizer vaccine this week.
you would not have safety concerns? i read their preliminary readout and it seemed ok..
Someone has to do it. Why not me? And no, not really.
yes totally true. i'm encouraged by the safety data so far.
did they contact you? I registered but nothing. I'd totally do it.
i signed up and they contacted me today. I told them I'd think about it overnight.
@Anonymous If main point is to see parents, might it prevent you from getting another vaccine that would help better with that? If you get J&J vaccine, you probably cannot get Pfizer or Moderna right? You may not know for a long time whether you got the vaccine or placebo or if you go the vaccine, whether it is effective. In the meantime, you could be eligible for Pfizer/Moderna, which has proven efficacy and you know you'd be protected. You'd be trading in your sure shot at a vaccine for just a chance of getting a vaccine (50/50) just to get the maybe a little sooner.
Basically they tell you if you got placebo once they file for approval (so late January early feb) and if you got placebo they give you real one. Is quite a bit ahead of when we’ll get vaccine generally by at least a few mos so that’s the trade off I guess. I asked if you can get both and they are finding out
I dont think its too risky. All the major pharmaceutical companies seem to be one the same track with vaccines. How did you hook up with them? I would be happy to do a trial too.
we're out of nyc and i got targeted on facebook - but i think you can google? maybe they are doing it there too
